Solar or mains?

Which water feature is right for you?

Mains powered water features run day and night whatever the weather, and many light up after dark. They need an outdoor power supply, and the ones on our display are marked energy efficient and low cost to run.

Solar water features need no cables and cost nothing to run. They work best in a sunny spot and flow strongest on bright days, which makes them perfect for patios, borders and places with no power.

  • Mains: reliable flow, often with LED lights
  • Solar: no wiring and no running costs
  • Hybrid: solar with a backup for duller days
  • Self-contained: no pond needed, just top up the water

Common questions

Water feature FAQs

Answers to the questions we get asked most often in store.

Do you still have water features in stock?

Our 2026 range is now very limited, so pop in to see what's left on display. The new 2027 range and prices are due around March 2027. If you're after something particular, give us a call on 01274 392344 and we'll check for you.

Do I need a pond for a water feature?

No. Most of our water features are self-contained: the water recirculates from a hidden reservoir, so you just fill it up and top it up now and then.

Should I choose solar or mains?

Solar is ideal for sunny spots with no power supply and costs nothing to run, but flows best in bright weather. Mains features run reliably day and night and many have LED lights, but need an outdoor power supply. Hybrid models give you a bit of both.

How do I look after a water feature in winter?

In freezing weather, empty the water and bring the pump indoors, or store the whole feature somewhere frost-free. Ice can damage pumps and crack bowls.

Can you deliver a water feature?

Many water features are heavy or awkward to carry, so ask a member of our team about our local delivery service.
