We fit a wooden block (log base) and ream the trunk, so it’s ready to stand or slot onto a spike stand.

Fresh from the yard
Every tree is stood up on display in our tree yard on Canal Road, so you can walk all the way round it and choose the one with just the right shape before you take it home.
From a 5ft tree for the front room to a 13ft showstopper for a high-ceilinged hallway, there’s a fir for every space. Our team will help you choose, and can fit a block or ream the trunk while you wait.
Pot-grown trees
Pot-grown Christmas trees still have their roots, so with a little care they can come back for another Christmas, or be planted in the garden.
Ask in store about pot-grown Nordmann firs this year. Keep yours in a cool, bright room, water it regularly, then pot it on into a bigger pot in spring or plant it out.
Tree care
Follow these simple steps and your Nordmann or Fraser fir will stay fresh and green right through to Twelfth Night.
Leave your tree outside in a cool, sheltered spot until you bring it in, with the trunk stood in a bucket of water.
Using a water-holding stand? Saw about 2.5cm (1 inch) off the base just before bringing it in so it can drink. Not needed if we’ve fitted a block or reamed it.
Don’t place it near a radiator, fire, log burner or in direct sunlight. Beware of underfloor heating too: it dries a tree out from the base and causes early needle drop.
A real tree can be very thirsty, especially in its first week indoors. Top up the stand daily so the trunk never dries out.
Take the netting off and give the branches a few hours, ideally overnight, to drop into shape before you decorate.
Remove every decoration and the stand, then recycle it. Look out for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice Christmas tree collection, which raises money for the hospice. We’ll share the details when they’re announced.

A block is a wooden log base fitted to the trunk so your tree stands straight away. Reaming shapes the bottom of the trunk so it slots onto a spike-style stand. Block and ream together is £7.00, or £3.50 each.
