Aquatics

Here at ACW’s Aquatic Department we have and extensive range of tropical and cold-water fish, suitable for large or small indoor aquariums, both heated and unheated. We also have pond fish suitable for outdoor ponds even in the harsh British winter.
We cater for both the beginner and the serious enthusiast, with a great team happy to help along the way. If you have any questions, please call us on 01274 392344 (option 3) or message us through our Facebook page: ACW Fish.

Our ever-growing selection of tropical fish means there’s always something new every week. From rarer and harder to care for fish, for the dedicated fish keepers, to easily kept ones for beginners. We have tropicals suitable for small nano tanks and some which will grow to bigger than a foot in length, needing a much larger tank.
We stock a wide range of tropical fish but here are a few examples which we often keep in:

If the fish you want aren’t in stock, please let us know and we will do our best to get some in for you. We will notify you once we are successful.

The cold water range includes fish which are suitable for indoor tanks, such as Fancy Goldfish as well as some which are better suited for an outdoor pond such as wintered Goldfish and Koi. If you want something different, we also have Loaches and Frogs which are suitable for a cold water environment and will happily live alongside goldfish.

We have fish tanks of all sizes, as well as packages which come complete with everything you need to start up a new aquarium; complete with filters, heaters lights and some also come with a cabinet or stand to place the tank on. Come visit us in store to see what we have to offer. As with the fish themselves, if you don’t see what you are looking for, let us know and we will order in a tank that is better suited to your needs. We can also commission custom built tanks if you need something more bespoke, contact us for a quote.

There is a lot to choose from when it comes to setting up a new pond, or even replacing existing parts of an already established pond. We stock PondXpert and other branded pond equipment as well as a range of preformed ponds and pond liners. If you need any advice or have any questions regarding ponds, our team will be happy to help you along. Should you be taking on a larger pond project than we stock, let us know so we can order in a larger size of pond liner for you.
We not only stock all the equipment you will need to set up your own pond, but also a range of fish suitable for the British climate. We also have plants to add a bit of greenery to your pond many of which flower during the warmer months for added colour. Please note that pond plants and fish should be purchased from spring to autumn.

Sometimes fish get ill just like we do. In that case, they may need some help to get better. For this you will need to use the right chemicals in the right doses. This can be very daunting for fish keepers so do not hesitate to get in touch and we will advise you how best to help your fish.
If the water isn’t right, we are happy to guide you on how best to remedy this. If you are at all unsure, bring us a water sample to the fish department and we will test the water for you and let you know what the next steps should be.

Different fish need different types of food and we keep a wide array in stock for all varieties. We even have some specialised foods such as some that help bring out the best colour in the fish. As ever, our staff are happy to advise you on the best diet to suit your aquatic pets.

Every aquarium needs accessories. Some are essential such as heaters in tropical tanks and some are purely decorative such as different coloured gravels. We have everything you need to make your tank both functional and look amazing, with a range of brands allowing for budget beginner tanks, right up to premium aqua-scaped set ups. We have a fantastic selection of wooden and stone artefacts and decorations that help bring your tank to life.

Plants can make a pond or transform an aquarium. They do many things for you such as:

  • Acting as a decorative item.
  • Help to keep nitrates under control.
  • Act as an oxygenator.
  • Serve as food for some fish.
  • Block sunlight in ponds, reducing algae.

Our plants are sold in different forms, already rooted in soil for a higher likely hood of surviving longer, however may take more work to install. They can also be sold soil-less and weighted meaning plants have a lower chance of surviving as long but are very easy to introduce. We also provide aquatic compost, along with a variety of aquatic plant baskets for potting up and introducing your own plants to an aquatic setting.

We greatly appreciate and thank you for all your custom.
